Meals for the Needy (Feeding Canteen)

At dinner time Monday through Friday, the Disaster Services Canteen goes out to feed the hungry in Albany. It makes three stops – North Pearl St., Clinton Ave., and the corner of Lexington and Washington Streets.

July and August are usually our busiest for dinner. In the winter, our homeless clients either find a place to stay locally or they find transportation to warmer climates. The canteen always runs, should they need it. From the homeless to the children in the neighborhoods, they come, they talk, they enjoy a nutritional, hot meal.

On a typical day, there may be as many as 120 clients who are served.
